In the Makro - a supermarket for shopkeepers in the outskirts of Amsterdam - he was attracted by a large bed for pets. Amongst other things one large grey blue dog bed was picked out by him and taken to the gallery. He noticed a huge pile of smaller dog beds as well and the next day a GALERIE VAN GELDER EDITION was made. JOHN M ARMLEDER Furniture Sculpture 267, 1991 ca 278 x 104 x 110 cm aluminum tubes in handmade wooden box, 3 versions each series in an edition of 10 signed, numbered, dated on certificate GALERIE VAN GELDER EDITION 1 tube € 4.400,- 2 tubes € 6.800,- 3 tubes p.o.r. * When John Armleder made this multiple in 1991 he was quite attracted by the transportability of this very sculptural multiple. He considers this as an ultimate good multiple example of a three dimensional work, which one can easily carry with him to any place on the world. AMF (John M Armleder, Olivier Mosset, Sylvie Fleury)
* This is a series of unique 'Drop cloths' John Armleder has made on cotton. While preparing his solo exhibition in the Centraal Museum Utrecht in 1992 creating a large three panel 'Pour Painting' of 3 x 6 meters. After having finished the huge painting the poured over piece of cotton was one big left-over, which was eventually cut into 105 pieces, still wet and very smelly. The 106th piece appeared to be a real left-over as it is shaped in the form of a very long stretched out triangle. The artist folded this one zigzagging into the last pizza box. The code 'U 40' refers to the forty paintings he showed in the museum. On the pizza box is a large red sticker 'U 40 Drop Cloth' with artist' name and date. All are signed on the inside of the box. Some of the works are signed on the cloth itself as well as on the box. The edition has not been numbered. Note: in 1993 the Wiener Secession in Vienna produced a second drop cloth edition, smaller in size and on coloured fabric with a label on the inside of each pizza box. JOHN M ARMLEDER La Ligne d'Arrivée, 1993 21 x 9,7 cm 'Plat du Jour' voucher of 200 FFrs edition of 100, but only 30 were signed signed, numbered, dated € 225,- * 'La Ligne d'Arrivée' was a restaurant opposite Galerie Gilbert Brownstone & Cie in Paris. The voucher - here unused - could be validated by ordering a dinner at the restaurant. Only 30 have been signed by the artist and very few have been issued, because soon the restaurant closed its doors. JOHN M ARMLEDER AP, 1993-1994 enamel name plate with AP-logo 22,7 x 16,2 cm, edition 6 + 2 AP signed, numbered, dated GALERIE VAN GELDER EDITIONS € 2.400,- * John M Armleder made this logo for AP Magazine and his initiative to co-operate with Ecart Editions on Art Basel Editions, together with Gallery Daniel Newburg, New York, Galerie Daniel Buchholz, Cologne, Gallery John Gibson, New York, Geneva and Galerie van Gelder, Amsterdam. JOHN M ARMLEDER Rotorura Perpetual Glow Machine, 2001 DVD, 1'23'', DVD met choreograaf HANS VAN MANEN en reclamebureau FASTLAND limited edition of 800 produced by BIFRONS FOUNDATION, Amsterdam € 65,- * This DVD is an unique combination of art and contemporary music. For this John Armleder, accompanied by Sylvie Fleury, filmed hot mud pools in Australia. The choreographer Hans van Manen was invited to have the bubbling mud sound replaced by the shuffling sound of a ballet danser executing one of his dance pieces. Each DVD of this Loud & Clear series is provided with a menu for single play and loop play. This is a genuine art piece. Later on the artists group had other versions produced in larger editions. The 'Amsterdam Tram Project' became quite controversial, i.e. conductors refused to drive their trams covered with the colourful and marked stickers afraid of giving their support to or at least being compromised and associated with homosexuality. Beautiful and witty allusion of Robert Indiana's LOVE icon. Museum Fodor Amsterdam issued the posters in a signed and numbered edition. LORIS GRÉAUD detail of content in box 'Cellar Door', 2010 22,5 x 31,2 x 4 cm confetti of punched press releases, cardboard box with printed text limited edition of 25 copies numbered + 5 A.P Note: numbered and not signed as issued, ask for specific numbers still available * A critical anthology on the exhibition 'Cellar Door (Once is Always Twice)' in Palais de Tokyo in Paris and ICA in London. French artist Loris Gréaud, one of the most innovative and distinctive artists to emerge on the international French art scene in recent years, presented in both venues a new installation which consisted of three almost identical rooms, and which drew on his interweaving interests in art, architecture and music. This installation is a continuation of a large-scale ongoing project by Gréaud. * This limited edition is numbered on a tiny white piece of paper. Loris Gréaud wanted to have the number on a little punched particle, similar to the confetti pieces. The artist put the individual number in each box. He liked the idea that the owner may try to find the edition number amidst the heap of shredded press releases. p.o.r. Eine Wertvorstellung" (1992) the artist analyses veil and function of banks as a value system in which money speaks a language everyone understands. Money is 'zum verbindlichsten Medium unseres täglichen Lebens geworden', but beyond this language money carries the beautiful appearence of the unsayable, he states. The latter is an urgent reason for the artist to propose to stimulate banks to buy more and more art. In this way by collecting huge amounts of images banks will change the existing money values into an universal valuta of images. So 'Der Duft des Geldes' / 'The Smell of Money' is in fact no more than the smell of images.
